A network of researchers for Nepal
Following the terrible earthquake that hit Nepal in April and May of this year, a large number of researchers, academics and students based in French institutions and specializing in the study of Nepalese societies and environments have decided to constitute a network, the “Réseau Chercheurs Népal“, with the aim of offering more visibly and efficiently their competencies in the service of a socioculturally and environmentally appropriate and longterm reconstruction effort.
Mobilizing and lobbying are some of the aims pursued. The Salme village in the Nuwakot district, which has a long history as a focus of French research in Nepal, has been particularly singled out for a major effort at funding and assistance at emergency relief, with the threat of the oncoming monsoon looming large.
